week 8 – whats changed

so those that know me, may know i started keeping "interesting" 50p’s on my shelf in the playroom. i have 13 olympics ones (plus 3 swapsies) and 16 just interesting ones (plus 9 swapsies).
i’m sat at my desk at work leafing through the journalistic masterpiece that is the metro & shovelling a tuna butty into my face when i see the headline "The £27 coin" i think to myself, im pretty sure i have one of them in my collection, i thought nothing else of it & enjoyed the rest of my butty. i got home before & out of curiosity i got the pile of 50p’s down & sure enough i do have one. excellent news i think to myself. i might even give it a bit of a polish to celebrate.
i sent wife a text saying yeah we’ve got one of those special 50p’s. how exciting. then i flicked on the radio & there’s a story about how they’re going for 50 quid on fleabay. £50 i think, not a chance, so i get up fleabay and what the actual fuck. people are spending £100 on em now. yes, £100 for a 50p.
this changes everything (see how i got that in there) my "collection" was a random pile of 50p’s with a face value of £19 to a random pile of 50p’s with a face value of £18.50 and one that the crazy people of fleabay are prepared to pay a hundred quid for!!!!!!
I’ve just checked now and there is one on there in a wallet thing from the mint with some blurb about it sold for £245.i nearly pissed in my pants!
check your pockets folks you may be holding more than a few quid in change in there!
according to various news outlets there are (or were before the news broke) 210,000 minted with 200,000 in circulation, i suspect by this time next week they’ll be 0 in circulation and the others will be more valuable than diamond encrusted gold plated unicorn turds.
check your change boys & girls, this time next week you could be able to retire!
i’m looking forward to the flurry of "hard drive full of bitcoins in the bin" stories that will no doubt pop up in the coming days.
