Though many may getting involved in Bitcoin as being as addictive as a drug.
Block files are necessary. Bitcoin's data folder on OS X is ~/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/, there you can find the wallet.dat file. If you want to resync, just delete everything on that folder (backup wallet.dat first) and resync.
